Post Shifting...

OK, again, new to 911 world (Thanks again to all those who answered my spare tire question); I have an '84 3.2 with the G15 (and a new clutch, but that's a different story) and I HAVE to ask:

Is this thing REALLY supposed to shift this awkwardly? Sometimes, I have trouble getting it into first; no grinding, it just feels like there is no slot. Same with first-second. I mean, is it just par for the course?

(Of course, I expect those sarcastic comments disparaging my driving schools).

The 915 takes some time to get used to. I say give it a little time and hopefully you will learn to shift it smoothly. You can adjust the clutch cable and the shift coupler between the seats if there really is a problem. Changing the fluid to Swepco is also a good thing.

In my opinion you might just want to give it some time and be cautious when you drive. If you really think something is wrong have a fellow 911 owner or a p-car mechanic take it for a spin and get their opinion.

Take it to a shop, or to a guy who has driven a lot of pre-87 911's, and get an opinion on whether it's the quirky character of the 915, or something from the following list:

Old shifter bushings
Old coupler under access panel
Poor shifter adjustment back at access panel
Bad engine mounts on tranny
Bad tranny
Etc.

In my case, replacing the front bushings and re-adjusting the shifter was like buying a brand new transaxle.
