Post Help selecting a hydraulic car lift

I'm considering buying a hydraulic car lift for my home garage. Does anyone have any suggestions as I begin my search? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Been thinking of getting one of these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46604

But there isn't much info on it. Looks like a cheaper version of a Bend-Pak unit. At $959 its oh so tempting!

Sounds like someone should think about a Rennlist group by - I'm sure other forum users would be intersted, particularly the 993 guys. Wish there was something similar in the UK for this price, cheapest I've seen is about 1800$.

Could you pass along any info you gather. This could be just what the doctor ordered!
Thanks

It would be great to find a brand of lift which would allow for engine and tranny removal. Most of the smaller/cheaper ones seem to have a cross brace acros the back between the lift points which would make engine removal very difficult.

Don,
Thanks for the information about harbor freight.
All other interested parties:
I found eagle equipment www.eagleequip.com to have a pretty good selection. I remember seeing them on "horsepower TV". Still shopping so I am still open for suggestions.

Thanks to all.

I operate a BMW independent in Belmont, CA. We use Rotary and Mohawk lifts. If they weren't the best we wouldn't buy them. I'm more impressed with the new Rotary than the Mohawks (although they're warranteed for life). We could put you in touch with an industrial vendor if you like, or need more info for pricing and install, they have to be bolted into concrete.

my dad has one of the 4-post eagle lifts mentioned above. it's really nice. his has big caster wheels on the bottom of the frame, so you can put the car on the lift, raise it a foot, and wheel the whole thing around. also, if your ceiling is high enough, you could raise a car and park another underneath. he lifts very heavy 1948,63,79 lincolns and a ford excursion with no problem.

Austin1,

Thanks for the information. I was able to find a website for both Rotary and Mohawk. I have requested literature from both. As you stated, both lift manufacturer's look like quality outfits. If you have a contact that operates in the Inland Empire, please send me an email.

Thanks again,
