A 73 911 MFI 2.4 system does not have an elec fuel pump does it?

Yes, it definitely does. Mine is up near the steering rack (not sure if this is stock - some were near the rear axle). You should hear it running with the ignition turned on but don't start the car. BTW, these pumps are pricey to replace...
