Default adjusted my co at idle car runs like a bag of spanners

as you guys probably know i had a problem with fluctuating idle carrera 3.2 1987 no oxygen sensor anyway checked all the sensors and all was fine so decided to set the co using the mixture screw on the air flow meter must have weakened it as the car started popping very loud after one pop after every 10-20 seconds.
The co before adjusting was 0.25% and HC 1500PPM i set the co back to 0.28% which stopped the popping and left it at that as i dont know whether a high hc shows an air leak
The problem now is the car runs like its on 5 cylinders runs rough and has lost a lot of power, any ideas if this is linked to adjusting the co and if not why is the car now running badly

I'd check your air box for starters. make sure you didn't POP it open with a crack or two. Your core issue is still there i believe. It may be time to take it to the shop before your few hunded dollar repair turns into a few thousand dollar repair. Oh by the way where did you get a CO meter ? are they readily available ?

ok i found out why it was running badly problem with the spark plug
whilst investigating i found if i squeezed the idle air control valve rubber pipe ie pipe which goes from valve to large rubber pipe on the throttle body the idle settles and stays at 850 depending how much the pipe is squashed if i had an air leak would the car still idle up and down despite having closed shut the idle air control valve rubber pipe
the co meter i used an expensive meter at a friends garage but im sure you can buy them as small units
