Default Clutch adjustment

Starting a new thread for this as it was getting lost in my pedal cluster rebuild.
With a lot of great advice I got my clutch cable replaced and I think I have the adjustments set up right. After completion ( oh I have a 78sc ) I definitely notice a "different feel" to the clutch pedal. The first inch or so of travel on the pedal represents one resistance and all of a suddedn I get a greater resistance after that almost like a 2 stage feel as I am pushing it in. now it is very minor and I may be splitting hairs but I just wanted to make sure everything is done correctly. What I think is happening is the first inch or so of travel is the pedal taking up the 1mm gap between the stop screw and the clutch and the resistance I am feeling is the helper spring. After that I am feeling the actual clutch lever resistance. Is this normal ? Is it possible I never felt this before because of the additional resistance of the cable would cause me not to notice this and now with a new much freer cable I with much lower resistance I can feel all the different resistances down the line ..... or .. is this just all crap and I have it adjusted wrong ?

Thanks guys.

ice: Just want to ask - does the black bowden tube form a nice, smooth arc over the throttle lever that's mounted on the side of the trans, and does it rest about an inch from the side of the trans? If yes, it all sounds good, a new cable transforms the feel of the clutch, if the clutch itself is in good condition. If you used the two bowden cable nuts to final adjust your stop bolt clearance to your 1mm setting, it sounds like you've done it.

Hi Pete

Yep I have a nice smooth arc. Actually when I did the adjustment with the 2 nuts it allowed me to position the "bowden tube ?" just right .

Thanks for all the great advice Pete... now what is taking those CV joints so long and what could I take apart in the mean time !.. hmmm... those brake lines are soaking in the juice nicely .. and I am always looking for an excuse to buy new tools ....hmmmm..
