It's your money, not ours, so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of your purchases. If you like driving it, thats good. Nothing wrong with a New Bug, especially a Turbo.
I got a VW New Bug as a rental once (with the normally aspirated 4 cylinder). Wonderful little car with a lot of German flavor in it. I let a few of my family members drive it and they all liked it, even with the little motor and the automatic. Insanely huge passenger compartment (or at least it seems like it with the dome type roof) for a small car. I would bet a Turbo with a manual tranny would be a hoot to drive.

Guy car, chick car? I think it depends on the color of the flower that you put in the bud vase. Of course, black wheels and flames might help!

I had a '99 New Beetle Turbo. With a GIAC chip it was powerful and a rear sway bar cut down significantly on understeer. I put a 911 "turbo" logo on the back. Back then they had none -- now VW does it too. It was a good car.
I'm surprised at the mileage you are getting. With my 5-speed, I would get 18-20 mpg on my normal around town driving.
Flowers in the vase? I removed the vase and capped the hole
Also, note in the pic below the piece just behind the driver's window. It's carbon fiber and had "turbo" script on the bottom. It was subtle and nice. The wheels are ROH 17s (16 was stock). I had tried 18s but too heavy -- they noticeably sapped performance.

Thanks guys. Please note the 93 mile per hour spoiler pops up. I'll attach a picture of those two Love Birds together in the garage. I love it so far. Here is the man of the house.

Not to compare a Beetle to a Jeep, but my buddies at work rag me about my TJ. Many say Jeeps are high school kids' or chick cars... That's Ok... they can think whatever they want. I love my Jeep.
Drive what you like... that's what i say...

BTW... when I got out of college I ended up with my sister-in-law's powder blue superbeetle with a 3-speed shift-omatic trans... talk about a girl car!!!
A REAL MAN can drive anything and pull it off... (although now that I think aobut it, I don't remember getting laid the whole time I owned that car...)
