Question What's my engine type?
Is the engine type stamped on the block, or do I decipher the serial number - 6303766.

My mechanic said its a 79 ROW 3 liter.

Can anyone help?

If I read the cheat sheet correctly, that number is for a 1980 ROW 3.0 SC engine, type 930/09.

A 79 ROW 3.0 would be 639xxxx.
