Question Headlight wire guage

Which guage of wire should I use when back dating my H5s to H4s?

The auto shop guy told me that 16 guage is plenty big. But it looks like the ones in my car may be bigger than that.

Am I immagining things?

Thanks,
David

David,

Lots of tech info on lighting given on this site (no affiliation).

I plan to use 12 guage when I upgrade my H5's to H4's and install 80/100 watt bulbs (winter job).

Correct, I am unable to use the H5 connector plug that came with my car for the H4 light bulb.

So I am going to cut some new wires and connect them to the existing wiring harness to allow the next owner of the car to switch back to H5s at a later date.
The current harness uses "Snap" Connectors. I purchased some Snap Connectors from Radio shack that are sized for 16-14 guage wires.

I will still have to cut the original wires but I will replace those connectors with the similar connectors from Radio shack.
