Default Help Needed...extremely embarassed!

Ok...here is what I did. My 1983 911 SC sat for about 3 weeks...during this time the battery died. I knew this would probably happen....anyway. When I attempted to jump the car...I mistakenly connected the jumper cables wrong...positive to negative. Well this quickly fried my altenator. I had that rebuilt. Here are my symptoms now...

The car will start and run...on jumper cables...and if I charge the battery a bit. When I turn on the ignition...the battery light does NOT come on at all. There is no charge making it to the battery. I did a continuity test from the alt (red wires) to the battery and that checked fine.

Where do I look now????

I am getting the alternator checked tomorrow.

thanks

Have you tried a new battery?

It's quite possible that the rebuilt alternator/regulator isn't working properly. If you don't get good readings with a volt/ohm meter, across the battery, check the charge light bulb. If I remember correctly the alternator cannot charge if the light is not functional. If the bulb is good the problem will most likely be the alt.

Thanks...I am having the alt checked again today. The bulb worked perfectly when the alt was removed the first time. The battery "seems" to be ok...when partially charged it holds a charge and will start the car easily.

Thanks for the input...I'll keep you posted on the results!
