Oh darn, in retrospect very poor forum etiquette, my humble apologies. Had just clicked from your car's auction thread on BAT and then over to this thread and recognized your name. Sorry to have messed with the reveal. Best I can offer is a heartfelt congratulations for a beautiful example of 911 - ness perfection. Enjoy !!

While I’ve owned a lot of 911’s, this 65 is a lot of firsts for me: 1st swb, 1st restored car, 1st auctioned car, 1 of only a couple I have ever just closed my eyes and paid whatever it took (the other such car being a froggy colored 997rs years ago). And, truth be told, I blame it all on my friend. 1) he dragged me into this afflicted hobby years ago and 2) I actually gave him my BAT login info to bid up to a limit (a few dollars from where it settled). I had no idea if I won it until it was over Otherwise, I think there’s a good chance I’d have chickened out!

I am more excited for this car than just about any I have ever taken delivery. I’m not exactly sure why. I’ll send some non-auction photos when I get my hands on it. I’ve already made one change to it post-auction:

Pcarhiway, no worries. It was all said in fun.

Edward, thanks for your kind comments. I'll post more pics once it actually arrives and I get it on the road.

It left a day late AND is being picked up just shy of 3k mi away from its destination! That has to be one of the longest hauls in lower 48: SoCal area to NY area.

^^^I love it. 911 convertibles make great haulers in a pinch. Who said a drop top isn’t practical?!

Just bought this old girl. 1977 Carrera 3.0 - originally from the USA. Being shipped to my place from Brisbane (couple of big day's drive away) - hopping from foot to foot waiting for it to arrive.

Manuel from Vintage Specialties does some amazing work. I’ve owned early 911’s but all the unique details of an early swb are more than I expected, especially in person. It reminds me of a cross between a 356 and a 911 (despite it being the 1st 911). The pics I had seen online didn’t do it justice. Learning its mechanical quirks, ticks and the sequence it needs at start-up are all part of the fun. It’s the prettiest car I’ve ever owned by far.

If anyone has suggestions where I can find seatbelts let me know. It is a WORKOUT staying in those bouncy/flat seats, around corners, w/no belts at all! I’d hate to lose those gorgeous seats but I might be tempted to eventually throw in some R-repro buckets and some belts? For now, I’m just going to enjoy it as is.

Why did they stop making the wing windows so early on? Too many leaks? Man, those take me back to old cars I remember riding in as a kid and wow, do they funnel some air into that cabin. They make the cabin feel a lot more open/ less closterphobic. I could go on and on about all the little details that separate it. The later long-hoods for sure are more refined and well-behaved. The sights, sounds and smells of this 65 are pretty amazing.

I can't get enough of this stunning example, Jr ...you are justified in your joy, lol!

I had those wing windows in an Alfa Spider Veloce, a gorgeous 77 that I owned for quite a while. Those little swing-out wings were awesome for tailoring airflow into the car, but leaked stupidly in the rain. Compromises, eh? These old cars are a glorious throwback to another era where one oddly embraces the quirks and "shortcomings" that even the most mundane econobox today affords. Even in the 993, folks stop to gawk, some can't help but strike up a conversation, as it is clearly from another time, like an analog watch whose inherent simplicity is intrinsic to its unadorned beauty and overall appeal. It would have been great to have been able to keep that Spider (which we all called the arachnid ), but alas, that was another time. My SC is the closest I can get to your 65. Enjoy that beauty, sir!

Edward

Thanks again, Edward. I’m loving it so far and I’m definitely in the steep part of the learning curve at this stage. I do catch myself walking down to the garage occasionally to catch a glimpse and whiff of it
