Question 1st time 911 buyer with muffler Q's

I have been a BMW enthusiast for a while and have finally bought my dream car. A red 1988 Targa. The car has a few mods, mostly cosmetic. I would like to start with the muffler. I'm have a blast driving this car, but it just sounds a bit sedate. The car is not a daily driver and I would like a good tone on the throttle. I don't want a bunch of noise inside the car making it difficult to talk, but I want the car to sound a bit nasty at high rpms. Your recommendations based on your experience is appreciated. Next we'll ask about brakes.
TIA

Hi Kenny:

Congratulations on your new purchase; you are in for one helluva good time,...

Given the costs of a good muffler, this is a decision that you should take seriously as whatever choice you make, you will live with it for while. Noise issues are completely subjective and we all tolerate different levels and sound quality. If possible, I'd suggest you listen to a few before spending any money as some aftermarket mufflers become quite tedious inside tha car after awhile.......

That said, IMHO, you cannot go wrong with a Monty muffler. These are all stainless construction, beautifully made, and sound nice in the 3" outlet version.

I think the best advice is to go to a PCA or similar meet and check out a few other cars. Steve's recommendation is a good one, but since there are no cheap mufflers for 911's it might pay to listen to a few cars before you buy. Also, a nice sounding muffler at idle can drone like crazy at 3k rpm. For example, around town and on spirited drives the Bursch sounds real nice on my car, but on the highway for over 45 miuntes it gives me a headache.
