Default Newbie needs help: '87 Purchase Price?

Hi all,

I could use some help on a potential purchase of an '87 911, 24,000 miles, Guards Red with black interior, turbo body kit and spoiler (factory I believe).

I had all but made up my mind on a new '06 S until I saw this car for sale locally. I drove a number of '85-'88s back when they were new, and I've always loved them ... especially Guards Red and the wider rear fender versions. When I saw such a beautiful example for sale I decided to put my plans to purchase a new '06 on hold and look into this.

However, the price seems very high - even for such low mileage and great condition. The dealer is listing at approx. $44,000. Is there any way this is a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for any help!

That is very low miles for that year! 1- check the repair records and 2- the inspection report. As for the price i would say maximum $27,000 to $30,000

You'll get a lot of feedback on this one as there have been many similar queries .

To begin-

- market price for the car is in the low $20, more for the Turbo body.

- the low mileage, while nice is not worth a $20K premium - nothing depreciates faster with milieage than low mileage.

- any of these prices assume excellent condtion, all records , willingness for the seller to agree to an independant PPI and factory original equipment.

- more accurate price guidlines availble in the right issue of "Excellence".

- High $20's if everything checks out.

Good luck

Not if my wallet were involved ! Seriously, if it's a factory turbo-look, with that low, low mileage, and 'perfect', the dealer 'might' get 44K from someone...but not me. The 87-89 G50 cars are great cars and in demand...low mileage garage queens 'can' command in the high 20s (particularly on the east coast), and the factory turbo look is a limited commodity, so that adds some premium, but $44K ? If it were me, and I wanted a G50 car, I'd find a 'reasonably low mileage' garage queen, then plan on spending some more to get all the turbo-look goodies + (i.e. 930 brakes, refurbished suspension, etc), and have a car you wouldn't be afraid of putting miles on and would last forever, for a LOT le$$. ....wait a minute...that's what I did

The question I would ask is the low mileage premium going to cause you not to drive the car. It's a catch 22, run the miles up and the premium goes away, don't drive it and why buy it in the first place. I agree that anything over $30k would be a gouge.

Is it a Turbo-look, or not? If so, it would have the wider flares in both front and and back. After that, check if it's a factory Turbo-look, or aftermarket. If factory, its option tage will include the designation.

In any case, its price should be in the 20's.

Way too high -- looks like the dealer is trying to make all his money on one car. Buy from a private party -- you're far better off.

if that is a real turbo look coupe, with 24k miles, I just missed an 87 coupe white on blue not too long ago and they got 35k, and that was with 15k miles, a real 491 is worth significantly more than a normal car to the right person, if it is a real 491, the dealer should get 33-35 for that car easy, I have a 87 cab 491 with 7k miles, and I have repeatedly been offered in the mid 40's granted it is a museum piece with full documentation, if it is not a real turbo body, 20k is all you should spend it is worth significantly less than a normal coupe, would make a great driver at 20k as long as they did the job right, if they didn't stay the hell away from the car... It will be a nightmare.

My genuine '88 Turbo-Look Targa with 100k miles is worth somewhere between $25k and $30k as it has an excellent service record. $44k sounds too high to me.

I wasn't suggesting that the car in question is worth mid 40's with that mileage mid 30's possibly. My 491 is a cab and has 7000 original miles, whole different playing field...

$44k is way out of line, but if the seller is patient, he'll get close to $35k, maybe more.

There are some people that look for "like new" older 911s, especially rarer ones like the turbo look. This type of car will sit until the right buyer comes along, but I don't think $35k is too out of line.

Man, it is like talking to a brick walls on this posts.. 44k is for a 7k mile documented to the yazooo convertible, not the car ,the guy is asking about. Low 30's is the number on the car he is asking about if and only if it is a REAL 491 car... Ok, we need a new thread now.
