Several posts lately, and a leaky Honda, have got me interested in finally fixing a few oil leaks. While searching for solutions I came across this product, http://www.tracerline.com/leakfinder.html. It sounds all well and good, add the dye, run the engine, see exaclty what is leaking. Right? Has anyone used this product? I am sure the professional versions are better, but do you think this is just another snake oil? Any opinions are appreciated!
By the way, I am sure I could use it on the SC as well!
Thanks
Chris

Thanks a lot for the recommendation. It looks like I'll be picking one up in the near future. I'll post the results of my test in case anyone is interested.

Flourescent dye coupled with a UV light has been a pretty standard oil (and also a/c) leak detection method for many years. You can buy the dye at any NAPA-type store. They also sometimes have the lights, which can be expensive. You can find much cheaper small UV lights at a good lighting supply shop. I recently bought a small battery powered one for $15.

Hello
@Bob
Well I didn´t had the actuall product in hand but i knew the product since years and worked with similar things.
The advantage froom the new light is that it is very bright so you can work in daylight and still small enough.
This was one major reason why it could a BAT recomonidation. We only wished a other packaging from the product ( would liked a Hardcase for the outfiel mechanics ).
Also the lightbulbs are easy to get ( one replacment comes with the kit ) and the accu charger has a smart charging device wich will lead to a long runing time from the pack. It also works similar with other dys ( Napa ).
The pricesticker is maybe a bit high but good tools who have to earn money are selctet by a other. DIY have a other userprofile and no problem to spend time with half working products.
Maybe the new UV lights are sold from other companys as well. I´m not in the US to do marked research. I asked my local Snap On guy last year and didn´t knew the new UV lights from the US marked. So my knowledge is based on the 300 BAT-mechanics feedback ( 5% active ).
