I am very interested in mounting an 8" Subwoofer under each of my seats in my 84 911. Is this possible? If so, what mods would I need to do?

I just installed 8" Sony subs under the front seats of my PT Cruiser, and the results are excellent! I looked at my '81 SC, and there is no possibility of fitting these under the seats with a box volume big enough to yield even mediocre results.
I am going to make an enclosure that sits on the rear seats when they are folded down, and can be easily removed. I am using a pair of 6x9's.

Your best bet is to contact Rod Birch at www.caraudioinnovations.com. His specialty is 'systems' for our Porsches which includes a dual (or single) 8" sub enclosure that fits behind the front seats. He has plenty installation pictures on his website and is quite knowledgeable of the products he sells and what works well together. I went with Rod's 'system' and am a very satisfied customer. His customer service and technical help is first rate. Not an investor, relative, etc, etc....just a satisfied customer. Do a search through the forums to see what others have said.

If you're interested in the CarAudioInnovations setup, I've got one available for sale, since I'm pulling the stereo out of my car to save weight.

I chose to put my bass cannon up in the luggage compartment pointing at the cabin. All the bass I need, and no compromise to the interior space(I still sometimes need to squeeze a couple of teenage kids into the jump seats, so foot room back ther is key)

I purchased a system from Rod and let me tell you, "The System" rocks. I wanted a good sound system to listen to tunes as I traveled to each DE event. As it stands now, I am planning on trailering and no longer need the sub-woofer. Rod will get you the best equipment with minimal hassle to install. So if you are interested in a sub that fits behind the rear seats, let me know. I will give you a deal on mine.

I have Rod's system with the 8" subs behind the seats and Focal speakers in the doors and it is excellent. The bass has a very strong range and the Focal speakers have good highs and mids. I usually like MB Quartz speakers but the focal's are better. Rod does an excellent job.

Actually the way to go is to create a new rear deck and place a shallow 8" "free air" sub in the rear deck. (you could also purchase the deck with 6x9 holes and Rockford Fosgate used to sell 6x9 subs.) Then replace the 4x6's in the pillars with 4x6 plate speakers. In the front doors go with a nice 5" mid with tweeter. Get a nice 3- or 5-channel amp with the appropriate cross-overs and you are set.

i have a high end car audio store in NY and i do fiberglass work. If you want 8" subs it can be done if you go to a good shop and have them incorporate the box into the bottom of the seats but it is a big job and very exspensive. so if you are on a budjet this not the way to go. you can also do a custom bandpass from the front trunk right into the car with a port but that to is a custom job. the port for what sub you are using has to be a specific dia and lengh so you have to be very exsperianced.

Let me recommend the Kenwood Woox, a powered subwoofer that you can pick up for under $220. I just installed one in my 86 911 and I love it. Plenty enough subwoofer for a car as small as the 911. At 4-3/8" high, I don't think it would fit under a seat, so I leave it behind the passenger seat.
Amazing value, if you ask me!
