'89 951 vs. '88 911 Cabrio (My Car Vs. Older Brothers Newly Purchased 911)... UPDATE!
Yeah I know that this is kids stuff, but I'm wanting to know what kind of HP he is packing. I'm not up on the 0-60 stuff for his or my car. I just know that mine is a very fast car even if it is all stock (as is his).
As all brothers due, we have a little older brother vs. little brother sibling rivalry going on. He's the one who use to let me sneek and watch Risky Business with him, hence his love for Porsche's (as a result of the movie) rubbed off on me.
Anyway, we rarely see each other eventhough we live only about 45 mins apart (long story... don't have time for it on this forum), but I know eventually we'll both end up at my parent's house driving our cars some weekend and the subject will undoubtably come up "who's car is the fastest?"
I would like to know we're I stand vs. his car. I assume that I'm automatically up on him d/t the fact that mine is a turbo. Could I get a Rennlister's help with some FACTUAL numbers that I can through out when the occasion arises, so I don't sound stupid (the thing all little brothers are scared of sounding like infront of their big brothers).
Thanks... not tring to have little brother syndrome
PS Posted this on 944 board with little response. Hoping 911 board can shed a little more light on the subject.

The 88 911 0-60 is 6.1 seconds. 89 951 0-60 is 5.7 seconds. Cars are farely even with the 951 coming out ahead so driver prowess could prevail. Get some chips and a good boost controler and you'll have no problem stomping his 911.

hmmm, maybe I'll try making them smaller

believe it or not, that's actually smaller. I apologize in advance for our bandwidth challenged brothers. Any smaller and it would probably have been a pain to read, I think.

Wow, I've got that issue back home in Arizona. Actually, the original Road and Track from 1986. I must have read that article 50 times on my visits back over the years, the last time about 3 months ago. Yeah, I keep my car magazines a long time. I have a Car and Driver where they road test the new SC (78). Unfortunately I lost most of them to a house flood (broken pipe).

Stephen, thanks for uploading the article. I too love reading old articles about our cars. I have a small folder of saved digitized ones myself (added yours to it).
There is one problem, I have an '89 not an '86. Granted they are similar, but the '89 is basically the turbo "S" model without the "S" designation. Other than handeling differences between them, the "S" model was ~30hp higher than the standard (the S used a larger turbocharger).
This article definately gives me an idea as to the comparisons between the cars, although they were 4 model years older.
Thanks for article.

Judging from the question, you have not had the opportunity to go to the track, and your brother has probably not either. These are assumptions that could be wrong. One track event would dispell any myths. The posted article compares an early 951 not the equivalent Turbo S which was badged in 88 and standard in 89 to a Euro 911 coupe which is lighter and more powerful then an 88 Cab. It is also easier to make a 951 even faster. Unless the 911 owner has an unlimited budget, he is better off abdicating the 0-60 challenge -- could be costly early transmission and clutch repairs. Unfortunately the only place you can find out what/who is really faster is the track and even then it may not provide the most complete answer because each of us exercises some degree of risk management. I plan on driving home at the end of the weekend and need to pace myself accordingly. Carrera951 can verify all of this because he has placed himself in class E. I'm sure he feels the same degree of challenge in running down 951s that absolutely scoot away on the straights.

Wow - that was a cool article - I have been to that EXACT part of Switzerland a few times. I think I have eaten in the Hotel Christiania... and I have driven up the Col du Pillon to go skiing.
In winter, I would NOT want to do it in a 911...

Cory, here's another article specifically with your '88S/'89+ 951 represented:

<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/951vs930_7-8.jpg" target="_blank">951S vs. 930: page 7-8</a>
EDIT: here's the rest...
<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/951vs930_9-10.jpg" target="_blank">951S vs. 930: page 9-10</a>
<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/951vs930_11-12.jpg" target="_blank">951S vs. 930: page 11-12</a>
Your top-speed of 162mph will easily wipe your brother's 149mph. With about $2000 in upgrades, you'll have +100hp to easily redline in top-gear @ 178mph! Too bad the U.S. didn't get the 951 Cabriolet
You guys should schedule some track time to really have some fun! Both my brothers are BMW guys and we go at it all the time, but the stopwatch doesn't lie !

Danno,
Scratch that last request. When I went to open them in another window, XP keeps downsizing them to show the whole pic within the parameters of the viewable screen, hence I could see the whole pic in the screen but it would make the wording so small that I couldn't read it.
Anyway, I figured out that the pics are larger than my computer is displaying (used a pic viewer program) and the resolution is perfect in the original format that you posted it in. Sorry and thanks again...

OK, I've read the article but wait! Where's the last page? It states that the 944T beats the 911T at the track and the it states that they are going to them out on the road... and then "No last page... I'm dieing here"
Need the last page. I feel like I read a mystery novel and someone took out the last chapter. Danno, please post the end of the article!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I guess I should stop passing the 44 turbos at the track so that my car abides by the road test rules! Sure they keep up with me on the straights and even start to pull a bit. But once I brake for the turns and go through them with no understeer, that's all she wrote. But then again, I have met very few people who drive a 911 the way it's supposed to. My wife used to have a 944 turbo and I miss it big time. I had a couple myself, but didn't keep them as long as she keppt her's.
Having driven both plenty, I found that on the street the 951 was faster. On the track, the 911. But and I stress but. With average to below drivers, the 951 was faster on the track. With expert drivers, the 911 was faster. Trust me, only guys who can drive 911's all day *****-out sideways truly know a 911. While many claim to be that good, few are. While those guys can go quick in any car, a 911 really suits their style and complements them as no other car can. I love both cars and really miss my wife's car.
My wife's 951 had a stage 2 chip. Of course I could have gone with a bigger chip just as my 911 could have gone with a 3.3 turbo, K29 and god-knows-what in the back. Wehere does it end? It doesan't.
In the end it's all about what you like more. Conventional like a 944 turbo, 300zx, supra, 300gt, corvette, rx-7 etc... with a water-cooled, front-engine with vertically-moving pistons and rear-wheel-drive or completely unconventional as in the 911. I like unconventional since life is too short for conventional things. But you are in a good situation by having both cars available like I used to. Enjoy it.

Interesting (and sometimes irrelevant) comparisons, I too enjoy thrashing 944Ts on the track -- but that is not all that common and is generally due to significant experience differential. The question seemed to be would "Gobogie's" turbo beat his brother's NA cab. With equal driver's there is no question that the 944 would win in any venue. Class E car vs slow class F (slow because of greater weight and more chassis flex). The 911s that are doing well in F are C2s.
For factual numbers go to the PCA site and dredge up old race results, best laptimes will be posted. Try to find an 88 911 cab for comparison... there will be a reason that you don't. That car is for styling, not racing.
