1982 911sc pricing
Hello. I am looking at this car which is supposedly in excellent condition. It has leather interior and a whale tail, and about 50k miles. It looks great in thi pics and is all original. If all is what it should be, what should I pay for this car? Thanks if you can help.

Excellent condition would be AFTER you have a full PPI done on it, even at 50K miles. You can run a Carfax on it in the meantime to see if any accidents were registered and mileage is accurate, but only a good shop with the car on a lift can tell if its been hit/repaired (not all accidents are reported to DMV). If all checks out I would say $17.5 - $20K would be a great deal if in excellent original condition.
JMHO of course..

I agree with gary. Keep in mind that you can easily find SC's in the 12k-15k range, but they will be much higher mileage and can have other issues that can easily push your investment to over 20k. I know this from personal experience . Some will say 17-20k is too much for an SC, but I disagree if it's low mileage, excellent condition and gets a thumbs up on a PPI.

Gary and JBO- You guys hit it right on the mark. I know I can get a nice one for mid-teens, but I would probably need to sink some cash into it to get it up to par. The guy is asking around $23k for it which is very steep. I would probably go ahead and spend an extra $10 to get the 930 if I was going to pay that.
Do you guys know where I can find a PPI mechanic around Richmond? Thanks,
Curt

Do a search here on on Pelican for PPI in Richmond, i'm sure you will get some hits.. If you are set on an SC and have the $$$, do the PPI and stay objective. It IS a 25 year old car and regardless of current condition it will cost money to maintain. 25 year old rubber bushings, even with only 50K road use, most likely are ready to be replaced, to say nothing of air lines, wires, etc etc. Have him scan/email or Fax you all the receipts, see what has been done. Pop-off valve, hydralic tensioners, and other standard updates done?
Keep in mind you can buy a very nice sub-100K mile SC for around $15K and that extra $8K will go a long way toward keeping it in top shape.. For $23K you are in 964 territory, and that is what I would be looking at..
Be sure to take a look on the Pelican forum ( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forum...s=&forumid=240 ), there are usually some nice cars there also.

Gary, Thank you. Your points are very valid and I have told the owner of the SC in question that I cannot waste time driving 2 hours to look at the car when he won't budge on price. There are a huge # of SCs or any other 911 for that matter, so I think I will just take the patient route.

Curt
