I have an 80 sc and am replacing head lights, there is a small 12vt light bulb in there as well... what is it? I was also trying to locate a short in the same side rear taillight, and there are some bare spots in the wire for this tiny bulb and it is slightly burned... related?
"city lights" are intended to provide minimal illumination on rural roadways without decent overhead lighting during dawn and dusk for other drivers to see you better, not so you can actually see where you are going. They also serve a similar purpose to leaving the outbound turn signal light illuminated while parking along a non-lit rural road.
They are connected to the parking light circuit (or should be) and will not illuminate with the headlights turned on.
BTW Randy, I just noticed your sig. I figured aside from John Dunkle, I was probably one of the few remaining (returning, in my case) original members.

Nah, I'm an original too! My office stuff is still packed from our move, and I'm still recovering from a slow broken humerus, so the Porsches are sitting and I can't tell you my membership number. The entire Porsche community owes so much to John D (and Jen) for stepping in after ther fall of Porschephiles, waaaaaaay back when.
As far as the city light there are multiple archived threads on them, their Euro use and pics from when I hooked mine up to work.
well after cutting, splicing and shrink tubing, I got the left side city light working, hoping this would solve my short/perpetual blown fuse issue w/ the left rear parking light, the results are in after my 1hr drive to work today... FAILURE and I wasn't yet able to get the passenger side working.
I HATE electrical work, does anyone have any ideas were to locate the short? I've pulled the entire housing out and checked the wires there, checked the wires at the connector in the engine compartment, and at the fuse block... didn't find any bare spots,, any thoughts?

Well, this is a different issue from your city light project. I guess you were thinking that the expose, unused wires were contributing.
I'm a little confused about your cars exact symptoms. You say that the LR parking light fuse keeps blowing? I beleive that the LF and LR are on the same circuit. If the LR bulb only keeps blowing out, then I would suggest the socket maybe the cause.. These do get wet and corroded. Clean up the socket well and always use dielectric grease on the bulbs. If the left side Fuse, or both bulbs keep blowing then I would take a look at your turn signal/headlight stalk. These are known to fail and remember that leaving your left turn signal on andf shutting down the car leaves the left parking lights on. JUst some thoughts.

Steve
