Default Wheel question

Are there any issues with using 7 and 8 x 16 inch design 90s on 74 to 77 911Ss, or 911SCs without spacers? Im in the market for a 911 and have these wheels with new Dunlops on them. I have a buyer for them, but if they will fit these year models, I would rather keep them

I'm going to run through here again, just in case.

I think the offset on the Design 90's requires you to use spacers. They are different for 84-89 Carrera's so they will not fit correctly for the older cars unless you use the spacers. I don't know the exact offset's, but someone on the forum may know.

I an running later year 6" / 8" wheels (and 7.5" / 9" as well). There were 1" spacers on the car when I got it to accomodate the later wheels on my 84. I use the same spacers for both wheels. FYI, 6/7 Fuchs also fit right on with no issues last winter with the snows too.

The 7.5/9's are ~52mm offset from memory.

Anything wider than factory 6" rims will probably rub - I've been informed. The rear is the problem area.

You could install wider fenders, or (not for the feint of heart) simply "roll" them. I would not want to do it personally, but I'm more of a conservationist (even though the mid-year non-carrera models will probably NEVER reach a very high level of collectability)

I may have a problem. The wheels are 7 x 16ET 55 and 8 x 16 ET 52. Tires are 245 45 16 rear and 225 50 16 front. Tires are Dunlop SP 8000s, I guess they have been replaced by 9000s, because I can't find them at tire rack. They seem like pretty good tires though from their look. I've had them a while, but not on the ground. I took them on trade from a guy for the cup wheels off my 968. I'm headed to search to see if I can learn how to roll the fenders and if I'm capable of doing it. The car I'm looking at now is a 77 911S. I have a couple of sets of spacers around here somewhere. I can't remember exactly what they are but I know they are at least an inch. You may be right about never being collectable, but the price is going up now instead of down, but I doubt rolling the fenders would detract from the value on anything but concourse type cars. Thanks for chiming in. I'm bit out of my element on these wheel fitments.

I don't think the Design 90's work on the 78-89 SC/Carrera Cars. The standard 7 & 8 Fuchs in 911 offsets were ET 23 front and ET 10.6 rear, if memory serves me correctly. Running the Design 90's with the much larger offsets would require 30mm+ spacers, which are pretty large. This is why you generally see only either the early 911 Fuchs offsets or the 993 wheels on the 78-83 series (no idea what trhe 993 ETs are, but apparently they work, based on how many you see on the road).

I have some spacers that might work, but that's just too much spacer. Guess they will have to go to ebay
