Question Door pocket replacement, easy??

I'm going to be replacing my driver's side door pocket later this week. Has anyone done this and is it fairly easy? I've taken door panels off my early car, but have never done it on an SC. Anything to watch out for? Thanks!

I believe the doors on the SC are identical to the Carrara.... if so, it is not hard...

There is a screw at the top front that goes into a plastic piece that is screwed into the door, and another at the top rear that screws into another plastic piece that holds the map pocket door. Take those off.

There are three-four screws on the bottom that go directly into the door... take those out too.

Finally, there is a screw inside the map pocket that screws into the door handle assembly.

IF all you are removing is the pocket... that should do it.

ON re-assembly, make sure the screws that hold the plastic screwblocks to the door are tight, and be careful with the bottom screws.... it is hard to line them up and they are easy to cross thread... so be sure they are properly threaded before you tighten them.

I just did mine. They are what I consisider the cheapest looking parts on my car. Cardboard, vinyl, and carpet. The aft screw that holds the flapper/ armrest is a real stinker. I would upgrade to the rs america new style one piece door panels I've seen at shows. One of my next purchases. Change the upper seals that meet the window while you're in there. The exterior ones are easy since you can snap the trim up and slide them out and in.

My Two Cents,

Ron

Thanks guys, that will help. I am just removng my old pocket and replacing it with one that is in better shape. I have a crack in the bottom of mine due to water leakage from the windshield seal (which has now been replaced). I Concours my car and that is a .50 deduction!! Plus, it just bothers me when I get into Skippy and see it. The "new" pocket with be here tomorrow, so I can put it in on Thursday. Another Concours on Sunday!!

Everything to do with it! Cashmere Beige is exactly the color of peanut butter. He came to me with that name. And it was perfect. We name our cars in this household. My husbands 968 is Dory after the fish in Finding Nemo. She's blue with big eyes! My '70T was Siganl Orange so he was Nemo. We had Nemo and Dory! Nemo is in the Fatherland now. Sold him and he was shipped back to Germany.

It will go well with the ext. color. Also, changing out every single piece of the interior will keep you out of trouble and off the streets at night - busy hands are happy hands.

Absolutely! I had to take mine off to fix it (part of the plastic had cracked at the front of the pocket and I bent a piece of metal over it to attach the screw). Apparently someone had it off before and the holds in the door are totally jacked. I got it back on, but it was a pain. If I ever take it off again, I'll need to do something to get those screws to hold right again.

You guys were right! I just finished putting the "new" one on. I thought it was going to be soooo easy when the 5 little screws came out. Putting them back in required a trip to the hardware store for new screws and finish washers! The most left screw on the bottom still isn't in there quite right, but it's mostly tight. The rest are good.

I used black shoe polish to blacken up the interiors of the pocket and it looks brand new! I did the passeneger side as well. For the tight spots, I smooshed the sponge top of the shoe polish applicator into a plastic cup and used a small paint brush to get it in the corners.

No deductions for the door pocket today! I won 1st place with 199.25 points out of 200!!! Wooo Hooo, my top score so far. The last two concours of the season are in Sept & Oct. so I have some time off from spiffing.
