Source for lock tumbler pins
Greetings,
Got an '89 Carrera and I'm trying to make all of the locks match by rekeying the tumblers. I took one apart and it appears to be a very easy fix. Problem is, I can't find a source for the tumbler pins (of which there are five, giving you something like 625 combinations). I've called several places - Pelican, Automotion, a local dealer, and none of them have them. Supposedly, there's a lock rekeying kit available out there somewhere. Any ideas? It just seems too easy a job to have to call a locksmith.
Thanks, Greg

Now here is a topic near and dear to my heart.
I have looked high and low for the mysterious rekeying kit.
If you search pelican, the threads you find will be just go to a locksmith.
I don't want to go to a locksmith. I want the ability to do this myself.
It is even in the 101 projects book by Wayne Dempsey.
No one has been able to source this thing.
I found a link the other day which may be of use, however they only carry 4 different wafers sizes.
I have not called them yet, it appears they may only deal with a true locksmith,
Any thoughts??????
http://www.carlocks.com/catalog.htm
direct link to pdf of kits,
http://www.carlocks.com/pdf/us_kits.pdf go to page 3 of the pdf the part number is A-26-101.
If anyone has any luck with this let us know.
Be prepared the responses you get will be to go to a locksmith, they can do this in 15 minutes plus/minus and it cost 20 bucks, plus/minus.
Regards,

Ed,
Thanks - I couldn't get into the link. Guess you gotta' be a registered locksmith. I'll keep looking for the tumbler pins - I just can't believe they're not available somewhere. BTW, years ago, I had a '71 Mach I (the year they got big & bulky). I sure liked the '70 much better!
Anybody know a good Porsche locksmith in San Diego?
Thanks, Greg

Greg,
I can get all places on the site except for the price list. I will eventually come up with something. even I end up sourceing a few used tumblers.
Nothing at all worng with 71 Mach 1's. But I must tell you, mine is a basket case, and the "resto" has been in prog for about 14 years. Unibody on a spit.
regards,
Ed
