Default 1/4 mile race in a 911 Carrera 3,2

Hello,

Might be entering a "run what ya brung" 1/4 mile competition with my 1978 911 SC coupe that has a 3,2 carrera stock engine and 915 gerbox. What should be the tyre pressures at the back ? I have 16x9 fuchs with Michelin 245s.
What time should I expect ? I will be happy with anyhing below 14.5secs (Am I dreaming ?)

Depends on how fast you make your 1-2 shift, I'd surmise. That also means how much potential damage are you looking to do?

PO on my 84 3.2 w/ 8" wheels & 245's just broke into the 13's I'm told (13.9X) at Lapeer Dragway in MI. He had the Weltmeister chip in there and a short shifter. FWIW, 1-2 shift is now pretty interesting, and it's a roll of the dice to when it'll shift very smoothly.

As for pressure, I usually run around 21-24psi on my heavier cars for drag days, depending on the track, how hot it is, the tire in question, etc. Under no circumstances (IMO) run <15psi on street tires. If you have the chance for multiple runs, start ~24, work down to 21 would be what I'd do.

good luck!

Thanks Fred. I'll start with 24 and hope for not too much wheelspin.
Gbox is rebuilt and has taken some beating recently without problems. The race is tonite !!!
