Default Quick and dirty a/c question

I'm trying to do a quick and dirty 134a conversion and bought the nipples and a kit from the local PepBoy/AutoZone/Murray's auto store. However the nipples didn't fit. I was told that there is not alot of quesswork to get the hi and lo pressure nipples switched out. Am I missing something?

What's the current condition of your AC system? You need to draw and hold a vacuum before you fill it with R134a. You need the proper receiver/dryer if your old system was R12. I'm not an expert, but O rings may be an issue as well. It's certainly not a simple as connecting up the R134a fill kit.

Those links help, I spent the good part of this morning surfing and searching Pelican and Rennlist. However, I was told by a pretty decent Pcar mechanic that an "adequate" job can be done by using the adapters easily bought at any autoparts store, crack the high pressure line for a while just to be sure system is not pressurized (my system was pretty empty to begin with), mount the adapters and refill the system.

Nobody is saying this is a "proper" job, but will get me thru the first summer.

smshirk,
I looked at Fox tool. The refigerant sounds like it might be a good sub but there is nothing on the site about fitting the tuneup kit to your car. Have you use their stuff?

yes, they have an adaptor kit. The guy is very helpful and will talk you through everything you need to know. His name is charlie fox and he can definitely be trusted. No affiliation other than being a satisfied customer
