Default 27 mm nut!

So I've figured out how to fix my loose steering wheel thanks to you folks and Pelican, and I have the repair sleeve...but where does one get the socket wrench for the 27mm nut to remove the steering wheel???

Your friendly Sears store will have a socket (1/2 dr) that will fit.

I was able to find a large 4-way wrench that fit right on (made to change lug nuts on a truck). Gives lots of leverage and it only cost $15

You will need that for other things Porsche, too. 928 wheel hubs and crank use the same IIRC.

Love the sig picture, Heinrich! Always a big fan of the 928 series...

With respect to that 27mm nut, make sure you torque it down correctly. I had done my steering wheel some time ago, and on the way to an autocross this spring, it decided to come loose! The 27 mm socket is not something you generally find in parking lot crowds, either! I used a little Loctite on mine after that.

the nut itself merely holds the hub down on the splines - they take the torque

if you don't have a 1/2 drive rachet, then get an adapter to 3/8" and a T-handle or cheater bar in 1/2" to save $$

Don't turn so fast and it will stay put.

IIRC, a 1-1/16" SAE fits also. It might be easier to locate, but if offered either of the two, take the metric.

The proper torque for the steering wheel nut is 36 ft-lbs. DON'T have the steering column lock engaged - you don't want to run the risk of breaking it.
