First thing would be to look where the oil comes from and what amount.

If the oil comes from the front or rear crank seals this is a easy fix ( OK on the rearseal at bearing # 8 it can have deeper problems force to split the case ) Oilleaks on the chain housings are also simple fixes.

Oil from the Camtower to head are more timeinvesting to fix but can be done.
The problem is mostly that the shops donīt care messuring deckhight and use heads with different hight wich bends the camtower and also bensd the camshaft as well.
Mostly you feel that when you install the camshaft ( Say even if you didnīt hat the tools to messure it you get a feedback ).

The problem is that tracking oilleaks via the internet is very close to guess the weather.

Now actually you need someone who has more knowledge on 911 and will look at the engine and do the initiall work like cheking the valves, checking the rocker arm shafts, the timing and the injection.

6000$ should buy a clean runing non leaking engine. For that money you have to make some compromisses like reusing the P&C and old camshafts ( Normaly they have slight wear on the lobes ) but not to much compromisses on the low end and the workmanship.
However if your engine had some major problems like a spun rod or very much wear needing more hardware then usuall.

So just go trough your docoments/bills and look what parts where renewed. rebuilding a normal worn 911 engine runs in some 30 hours workshoptime with some external charges like reginding or trueing surfaces( Machineshopwork )

Right now the point is did the enginerebuiler even looked at your engine or did the are the oilleaks descriped via the phone.
How are there warantydeclarations on there bills. Are you bound to the work in there shop not to loose waranty ?
If they donīt recomened any run in routine they must have runed in the engine ( on the bench ) or they reused all the old parts so there is no real need for a run in.

Recheking the engine after first heat up is needed as everything will work a bit and you the valves also sometimes will seat in changing the seting mostly to the dangerious side. If the machineshop worked perfect the valve seats will not move. I never trust machineshops so far.

How to go on ?

Very simple call those guys and just make it simple: You have slight oileaks and want to have them fixed, you also would like to go sure that your engine is adjustet well and the idle setet correct.
You will bring them the car and they should have estimate how much it will cost and what they have to do to stop the oilproblem. While that they should set the valves check the timing and try to adjust the engine into a good runing manner.

So you pay for the first maintance and while they are at it they can look for the oilleaks.

If they make a estimate saying there are no oilleaks you have a bill with a milage and then the things are very easy in german law.
Donīt know the US laws. But the thing is if they sold you something not doinig it right and estimate the problem needs money to get ficxed the shoot into there own feet. If they say there is no problem you need to find a objective trustet company whos estimate will stand for a jury annd then in germany you have one chance to fullfill the contract and if you failed the costumer can chose any other good company to have the problem fixed on the costs from the failing rebuilder. Some people just move to Porsche Werk 1 as they are a trustet company abouve any doubt and they work very god. Now a enginerbuild at Porsche runs into someting like 20-30 000 $ and if the make the engine better then you payed for at the rebuilder a part on that goes from your pocket.

BTW such legal things are very time robbing and costs very much for both sides and mostly ends with a compromiss for both but the costs from the lawywers....

The shop found the source of the leak. It was a cam cover for one of the cams that drive the mech. fuel injection. Or something like that. Anyway they changed out the oil and replaced the valve cover gaskets to be safe. That just tells me that it was leaking there too. So, with a bit of sun, I should be able to pick uo my car Saturday. I can not wait to drive my car again.
