Zims is great too. They work on cars as well, and Kirk behind the parts counters is a great and knowledgeable guy. I used to use them a lot when I lived in Dallas, and have used them online once I moved back here.

That's because your dealer is honorable and won't sell after market cables. Last I checked retail for an o.e. cable is about $90, the best most dealers can do is a 10% PCA discount, or similar. The reason that I'm so familiar with non o.e. cables is because of the large amount of them, installed by others, my shop replaced.

Every one of those cables had a "heavy" pedal issue, which had us fooled thinking that it was an internal problem. We replaced one of those cables, that looked almost new, and it fixed the problem. That's when we discovered that the after market cables had "Made in West(ern) Germany" written on the bowden tube in white letters.

From that day forward, when we encountered a 915 car with a heavy pedal, we put money on the car having an after market cable - even before raising the car up on a hoist. We were right more often than not.

Thanks for all the kind words folks. As many of you know, there is no match for Pelican's extensive catalog, technical library, quick delivery, or Customer Service. 12 years of experience in this business and we're still growing stronger every day. We currently offer FREE shipping on about 80% of our parts, with the exception being the special order dealer parts or some unique aftermarket items.

In further confirmation of our commitment to our Porsche customers, I just uploaded more than 100 new tech articles for our fellow Boxster owners (http://www.pelicanparts.com/boxster/boxster_tech.htm). The 966 versions are coming very soon!

Thanks you all for your continued support!

-Wayne

Wayne is a stand up guy.

I find the question of where to buy parts to be a potentially controversial one because the parts biz can be cut throat.

I can offer positive feedback for Pelican, AutohausAZ, Zims, Elephant Racing, even the Porsche dealer network, and my local parts guy. If you need telephone tech support at the time you order parts, there used to be a guy at Pelican named Tom at extension 305. Also, Gabe the owner of Strasse is very helpful. Otto at Otto's Venice, and Chuck Mooreland at Elephant Racing all come to mind. I have had a lot of good friendship and support from StrasseUSA, but I don't know of they are around still or not. I used to like GPR before Dave passed away, may he rest in peace. Patrick Racing is good for 914 stuff, or the high end street stuff. We'll see what changes the parts business goes through, but I think the ones that offer customer service will continue to grow. I don't really use Performance Products so much anymore, although I used to buy from Automotion.

Pelican is REAL good. procuring good parts is more than $$$. Customer service is a big help, before and after the sale. Most importantly, a knowledgable parts guy to confirm what you are ordering and what it fits. I will say that Pelican has one of the largest databases of imported car part numbers available in North America.
Also, I suggest you call the shops, in your area and outside, like Redline mentioned above. A guy that works on these cars daily knows what you need, and probably has it.
The great Peter Z. just taught us in a few minutes what took him years to learn...don't take people out of the equasion when parts shopping.

Tom's still here. He's semi-retired from his "real" job (former Navy seal who used to dive down and disarm torpedoes stuck in the sides of ships!), so he typically works Mondays, Tuesdays, and a half day Wednesday.

The rest of our staff is highly qualified too.

Thanks for the kind words!

I've placed at least 5 or 6 orders with Pelican during my engine upgrade. I found it pretty easy to hit the free shipping. I was close on a couple and added an oil filter each time to go over the top. I'd order Sunday usually, the stuff would pack and ship Monday, and I'd receive Tues or Weds. My transit time is only 1 day due to proximity, but the comprehensive online catalog, and efficient system are important to me as I need to do this stuff on my schedule.

Upon my latest project, I spltt my order up across a couple of venders. Some of whom I vowed to never use again decades ago, maybe I thought "How bad can it be", well it's business as usual. I had to reorder from pelican and my stuff was delivered in three days from placing the order(east coast). free no less. Using budget and flashy ads to decide on a parts-house is a rookie Porsche mistake. Most of us learn after the first go-round.

That, and he runs his business in a way that supports and helps to grow the Porsche community.

Neat story. I forgot to add that we have a new program for shipping 3-Day to the East Coast for $3. It's been in place for about a year, and has been very popular!

Thanks for all the kind words!

I like how you said this. Very true.

On Pelican, the one thing I found confusing the other day is that they apparently carry a brand called OEM and also carry Porsche brand. In this case I was shopping for head studs. Not sure what the difference was, both numbers started with 993. I ended up buying from Rennsport Systems for cheaper though, so I got great advise and a better price too. Can't beat that.
