76-77 Carrera 3.0 0-62mph 6.1 Sec. (Auto motor and sport) 1,120KG 200hp/Top Speed 146mph

SC 81-83 0-62mph 5.7 Sec (some Motor Magazine). 1,160kg 204hp/ Top speed 146.

All other SC except Turbo and SCRS slower 0-62

The 1984 SCRS, never heard of it until now looking at the stats. Wow, what a car. Did they sell these things and how come no one talks about these super cars?

Bottom line - different cars 928 vs. 911 but both wonderful in there own way.

I own both an '84 3.2 targa and an '87 928s4 5 speed so I have a decent frame of reference for this topic. Due to the 911's great traction and lower gearing it will be faster to 50, assuming you don't mind thrashing the drivetrain. Once the 911 clears second gear, however, it will be seeing 928 tailights. From 40 -100 and beyond the s4 will kill the 911. The s4 is a lot faster than an early 928 though. And nothing beats a 911 on a twisty mountain road.

A long time ago I test-drove a late 70's 928. The dealer let me go by myself (and even offered to let me take it home overnight!) so I got on it fairly hard a few times. IMO, it would take a lot of dragracer skill to get the most out of it 0-60. It's way too heavy for the width of rear tire and spins them with ease. It's like a v8 Mustang, you'd have to experiment to find the best launch rpm. Maybe the later ones had wider tires and were better at that sort of thing.
