Post how do you clean your headliner?

I have a 911SC that has the off white headliner that is in good physical shape but dirty in appearance, some water spots, dirt type stains and just 19 years worth of stuff, how do you clean these?I am hoping to make it look nearly new by cleaning and possibly re-coloring?Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

I have an SC that also had the white headliner(sprayed it black) in good shape but discolored. I took it by World Upholstery @ Trim ( they sell Porsche Carpet @ seat kits) In Oxnard Ca. and The guy took a look at it and said to spray it with SEM Color Coat for vinyl, And prep it first with the Vinal prep by the same maker. I got it at a Paint and body Supply as World was out.
Me and the wife took out the seats and masked off everything with plastic drops and masking tape of different widths, thin for tite spots. You need to protect yourself from the fumes and overspray.
The vinyl prep cleans and softens the surface.
Anyway mine turned out great, you would have to look really hard to see its been sprayed. The back window area was the hardest to get in the corners ( with all the overspray it gets hard to see)I think we used some bright shop lites to light up the interior, and a fan to draw out the fumes.
I have always been good at spraying so I'm sure that helped. You just don't want to get too close with the spray and use back and forth motions.
It was well worth the effort and the lost brain cells. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Bob, Good info. It sounds like you did black over your original white? Did it require multiple coats?
Did you notice if they carry an original looking white color? You have just given me a new project!!

Yes I did mine black over the original white. it's kind of a semi gloss that matches the rest of the interior perfect. I'm sure they do have a white as I remember they had several colors.
It says you can use it on carpet or plastic too and that it's flexible in nature.
This was a bit of a project that I think I did over a two day period maybe three? Prep, Paint, clean up and put seats back in.
I did give it more than one coat, maybe three light ones to cover the white.
And also drapped the hole car with plastic.
And then some tuch up after removing the tape.
I also did the leading edge of the sun roof last, after the rest dried.
It's a cheap project that really cleans up the interior.
I had my seat repaired at the same time and then took it down to North Hollywood Speedo and had them clean up all the gages and put in an oil temp. And try to get rid of that clicking in the speedo, But its still there ?
Get a good respirator mask you'll need it.
