15,000 mile service
I have a 1986 Euro Carrera Cab with 62,000 miles on it. I have averaged about 3,000 miles a year the last 5 years. It is now due for the 15,000 mile service which was last done a little over 4 years ago. I do a lot of my own servicing but will not do this one since I really don't adjust valves often enough to feel confident to get them right. What is done by a shop for this service and how much should I expect to pay? I live in California. Thanks, Curt

Curt: A 15K major service for your car includes: Engine oil change and filter replacement, transmission fluid change, new air filter and fuel filter, replace spark plugs, adjust valves, comprehensive inspection of wheel bearing adjustment & condition, CV joint boots & bolts, brake pads, brake hoses (if they're still original they should be replaced and the fluid changed), inspect all fuel lines, hoses and oil lines, inspect & replace all burned out light bulbs, inspect all switches (T/S, window, hi/lo beam, etc.), adjust clutch, inspect w/washers (if not working estimate repair), inspect distributor cap & rotor, start car, run until at full temp and set the idle speed & fuel mixture per factory manual specs, test drive. Cost will be about $600 for the basic service + any extras (brake hoses, brake pads, alternator belt, headlight bulb, etc.). FYI: The brake hoses are dated, so if they are original you'll definitely want to replace them with factory original rubber hoses. I prefer Castrol LMA or Ate Blue for brake fluid, your shop might have different ideas.
