pulling 71 911 engine/w or w/o tranny
i will be replacing the clutch in the car this weekend and have seen it said to pull both engine and tranny and to just pull engine.
what does the 911 forum think?

Dr. Garchow, it is recommended that you pull engine and trans. in one shot. You may hear of experienced shops pulling one or the other...usually just the trans. for a clutch changeout, etc.
...but remember, I said EXPERIENCED shops!
You can attempt it, but trust me...you will find PLENTY to do that would justify pulling everything out in one shot.

I totally agree with Jeff. It's more convenient to install the engine back with the trans/engine combo than mating the 911 engine to the mounted transmission.
IMO I don't find any advantage for DIY to remove the engine without the trans unless you have access to a hydraulic lift and engine carrier.
