Default Can't unlatch Engine hood?!

(1986 Cab)
Never a problem before. Last added a 1/2-Q of oil about 2 months ago and went to do it again yesterday. Tugged on the trunk-release handle and it pulled until taut (about 2 inches/normal) alas, this time the hood didn't release.

How can I "break-in" or finesse the release on the engine hood, any tricks or experience with this?

The cable is fine (not rusted or broken) and I pull until the cable won't go any further (again, about 2 inches) but it just won't release the hood now.

Have you tried having someone lift the hood while pulling the release? I had this problem once, Once opne, all it needed was a little more grease to keep the spring active. Good luck.

I have to pull the latch and reach waaaaay back to lift up the engine lid at the same time. Agree with the grease-needing spring...

What can you do to lube the cable while you have the hood off (for painting)? Anything?

Well the spring was exactly the problem.
Did the two-person: pull-on-the-release and lift-the-hood and got it open, no problem.
Thanks Dan and RecordMan!
