Too much for this car?
Found an '82 911SC the other day. Red. 102,000 miles. 3.0 litre. Excellent condition overall, I would say.
Car lot wants $18,000.
I don't know how reliable or accurate Edmunds.com is for estimating used car values, but they say this car in "outstanding" condition should run a little under $10k from a dealer. Even with only 20,000 miles on it, it should still be under $10k.
$18K too much?

I really like the SC's -- had one -- wish I still had her. But that sounds high to me. The thing to do may be some research into this particular dealer -- ask around -- here or elsewhere -- and get a feel for how they operate. Some don't mind holding inventory stock for a longer time and like to hold out for the "right" buyer who just has to have it and will pay a premium. Others like to turn stock quicker, make less of a profit margin and move on. If their drill is the former, and you don't mind, and you love the car, and an independent PPI checks out OK, then negotiate the best price you can get them down to and go for it.

Scott, thanks for your reply. The dealer has been around a long time and seem to be a reputable place.
I've checked the carfax records for this car, and it checks out OK. I'm considering taking them the Edmunds printout and see if I can talk them down. Edmunds came back with $8603. I'd offer $11k and see if they bite. $18k is too far out for me.
Here's a few pictures

Thats the car at the dealer (Aurora Classic Coach?)on Aurora ave. in Seattle, right?
Ahem.....WAY, WAY High. 102,000?!?! Has it had a rebuild? Is the interior in show room condition?
Assuming yes to both these questions, $15,000, maybe less. Hell, I'll sell you my Targa for way south of that(18k), and it only has 83k(New clutch and 1st/2nd synros going in to).

Don't know if it's had any rebuilds or not though.
I'd love to look at that Targa...I'm just up on 143rd/ Greenwood behind Saltoro.
