Buying an SC...feels like i'm rolling the dice

Observations from my search-
- people ask more for a specific car than it is worth. I looked at two '83 SCs last year each with their own issues, one for $17,800 the other for $19,000. After I backed out the anticipated work they would need I offered both owners $12K and was rejected.
- a mechanically sound, cosmetically good SC is worth around $15K. The trick is making sure you subtract enough from this figure to cover the cost of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. This can run form zero to $9-10K.
- the good news is that for a unique 20yr old car, parts and good mechanics are surprisingly available.
I bought an '86 that "needed nothing" and have spent close to $1k on maintence in the last 14 months.
It's worth every penny.

Here is my 2 cents,I recently purchased a 1983SC with 97,000 miles,a coupe with no sunroof, near perfect paint, many upgrades including head studs,a near perfect PPI,the only cosmetic item needed is the front seats need recovering,I purchased for $13,500.00 which seems to be a good price here in Florida.I am very happy with this car.Good luck in your search. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
