My Carrera is from 89 and is really clean. Will I hurt the value of my car if I have the engine fan painted? I just don't like the natural look and if it's painted red like the body, I think it'll look cool. Pros, cons, please.....

Raj - If anyone has a problem with the painted fan (I suggest powder coating, btw), a used replacement can be fitted with minimal expense and effort to restore its "originality". If you really want to be **** about originality, buy a used fan, powder coat it, and replace it for the original (and keep the original for posterity)...

Personally, I think the fan on my car is the worst part, aesthetically. Otherwise the car is pretty much perfect. So, if the PO had gone to the effort of powder coating the fan to match the body, while I wouldn't have paid MORE for the car, I certainly wouldn't have used it as a point to drive the price DOWN, either.

See what I mean?

I was just thinking about having mine done this morning. Red engine parts look great. What color are you going with and what color is your car?

I just did mine and it was only $100 to have prepped and powder coated gloss Red

I had them mask off the part where the belt contacts the fan to prevent the coating from coming off there. Also had the pulley (part in front of fan) for the belt sprayed metallic Silver...

Let me be the dissenting opinion and say that red fans aren't cool at all. Sorry.

I'll join you on that.

Red fans are a bad cliche.

Obviously, I disagree, but how about powder coating it in Metallic Silver then, to keep the original metallic look, but improving the drab color of the weathered magnesium?

That would get my vote & is probably the route I'll take. Oh & I'm keeping it original - but not insanely.

I just removed mine and bead blasted the whole thing and sprayed with clear coat. It's been 2 years nowand looks great. Oh, I've since deleted the A/C and back dated the heat.Whatcha think?

Ruby Metallic, I love it. Same as mine. Did you blast & paint the fan AND the housing, or just the fan?

BTW, only a poor job will reduce the value of the car, and not by all that much since it would be minimal effort to return it to original if desired.

I like that. Simple. Did you have to file the edges? I hear that powdercoating is often too thick, bu a clear coat?

Default colouring engine fan

Personally I prefer the original look - just had mine restored.
