76 targa carrera, is it possible to add ac to a non ac car? how difficult? how much dinero?
Also, there is kind of a toggle swith on the right side of the steering wheel on the dash board, anyone know what this is? it is in the same location as the ac swith on say a 89-90 911. Also the motor in my car has been updated to an 85-86 which has the ac mount but no compressor if this matters in the ac question.

Sorry I cannot answer your question regarding the AC, but I have the exact opposite question.
I want to remove mine from an '86, so depending on the answer, maybe we can do some business. =)
I want to do the right thing and have the freon captured rather than releasing it into the atmosphere.

Yes, it is possible to add an A/C to a car that doesn't have it, though I'm pretty sure it's not a cheap thing to do, since new lines have to be run into the car. Mine had the A/C installed aftermarket - whoever did it did a good job, because it "seems" like it came that way.
The switch you're referring to - is that the mirror select switch? You'll notice, if you have power mirrors, that you only have one little joystick on the driver's door. You use the switch to select which mirror that joystick controls.

Jon,
Go to the dealer or independant shop and have them withdraw the freon from your system. Then you can remove the system without releasing freon into the air.

the electric mirror switch is on the LEFT side of the dash. Right side is (I'm doing this from memory) the headlight washers, at least on my '85. can't say for sure if they were installed on the '76 -- it might be the passenger ejection button
