Suggest sticking with stock replacement shocks, unless you want to modify the nature of the suspension. Black are generally Boge, Red generally Koni, and Green generally Bilstein. Yellow can be Bilstein sports or Boge gas - it will say which manufacturer on the strut/shock body. While green is generally Bilstein base or HD, they can also be Bilstein sports. Here the number on the shock or strut will help with identification. Some of the better prices I know for shocks/strut inserts is www.shox.com (no affiliation, etc).

Thanks. Understand the various manufactures, however, with regard to ride, if I want a "daily driver" ride which would you recommed? I don't want comfort since not driving on track. Thanks

You need to check your strut housings first to see what is compatible. You probably have Boge OEM strut housings, which I believe will take Bilsteins and/or Konis. Other housings will not always take various inserts.

Hmm... well I've got a set of really old Boge shocks for just a few weeks more if your car can accept them. Trust me, they are really soft! Seriously, the Boge (again, if your car can accept them) are probably the softest and that is not to say, umm soft, while still offering the performance engineered into other 911 suspension components. If you want a much softer ride, maybe another car? I'm not sure the ride can be much softer without major surgery. Going softer just isn't something most 911 owners are looking for.

Here's another vote for Boge shocks. I kept my '86 stock and replaced the original Boge's with new Boges. They were just fine for street use. The ride quality was very good (for 911 standards). If Porsche decided to use Boges right from the factory, they must not be that bad.
Fresh tires make a huge difference too. New, tall tread cushions the ride. Plus, there are lots of "compromise" tires that ride well and give some performance too.
