Talking Great Posts on a tough question

Thank you for those who have posted so far. The advice has been welcomed and practical. As this is the very first p-car that I have ever purchased, it is great to learn from the past experiences from others.

Chocolate vs. Vanilla - - - Coupe or a Targa. Really doesn't matter it's all up to the person. The choice is a personal one.

Sounds like the most practical advice is to pick a body style and color and go looking for it. If You can't find what your looking for, wait. I have become seduced by this car and feel that I almost "need" to have it already. From the advice of the seasoned pcar enthusiasts, this train of thought seems it may lead me into a car that I won't really want after the initial buzz has worn off.

On the other hand, I'm looking for an antique here... a 20+ year old car. Is it realistic to pick body style, color and mechanical soundness...and find my car this century?

Yes! Just need to look. Two sources: The Oregon PCA region has a good compendium of various sources here and of course Pano, some of which are online at the PCA web site here

Yes, spend your time and look for exactly what you want. I spent 12 months looking for my '73 Targa becasue I wanted an early body style and a targa top.

BTW. The hunt is fun.

another source of P-car ads is: http://www.enthusiastcars.com/index_framev1.html

I think it's very reasonable to pick a body style and expect mechanical soundness. You probably will have to make a list of acceptible colors unless you're looking for the more common colors such as Guards Red, Black, etc.

A guy in my local club only wanted a 911SC coupe in Petrol Blue with a Cork interior. He looked extensively for 2 years throughout the country, but found exactly what he wanted. I just takes patience and a lot of persistance.

Good Luck,
Jay

I would def take time. Its an emotional purchase and its hard not to fall in love with most of the ones you see. Down the road youll be happier though, plus this economy being so poor is bringing more cars to market at better prices.

I agree with most here,I did not limit my search to a particular color but I did want a coupe,I had owned a Targa in the past and this time wanted a coupe.I believe that your search at a minimum should be for the best mechanical condition you can afford, this can rack up big dollars real quick, then exterior and interior quality. It also depends how handy you are, some guys would pass on a car that needs interior repair while others say this is a easy repair to do yourself, everyone is different.I do agree it is a emotional purchase and you really have to have a pro do a PPI to make sure you are getting what you want.I am very happy with my 1983-911SC that took me 2 months to find.Good luck!!!
