Default Greetings from across the water

Hi Everyone,
I have just joined the forum from here in the UK. I came across it when looking for 911 information on the net before acquiring my toy, and I found it really useful...much better than we have in the UK. If I may make a small criticism though, bonnets are not hoods, wings are not fenders, they are called bumpers by the way, and the boot is not a trunk..thats what those big heavy Grey things have between their tusks....only joking guys, I will have to get used to it.
I have just bought an 89 Carrera 3.2 Targa SE as a summer fun car. Took me ages to find the right one as there are loads of dogs around over here, but it was worth the wait, and the money. When I took it to a local porsche specialist one of the mechanics said that he hadn't seen a cleaner one since he worked for Porsche UK, and before buying it I had it checked over by a chap called Peter Morgan who is a well known author of Porsche books over here and he said it was OK too. My son thinks its cool too.

I look forward to participating on the site,

Graham

Graham,

Welcome aboard!

I hope you know what you have gotten yourself into, these little cars are very addictive...but loads of FUN.

I have some of Peter's books, so if he blessed your car it must be very nice. Got any pictures you can post of your new car? Cheers.

Hi Bruce,
Yes you are right, these things are addictive..for sure. I've only had it for a few weeks but its a real pleasure to drive. My day to day car is a BMW X5, which is great, comfortable, easy, fast, with every electronic aid known to man to make your life easy, including SAT nav, and a bloody TV...haven't found the **** wiper yet but I guess BMW will fit one as an aftermarket option at a price..cars are very expensive over here by the way....BUT the 911 is a different annimal. Sure its got all the electrics including heated and electric seats which in 89 was something else, but it is such fun to drive....you find yourself looking for an excuse to go somewhere, just for the fun of it.
Maybe that novelty would wear off if you used it every day, but this is very much a weekend summer job, so I hope not.
I have posted some pics on a new thread, so have a look.
Same colour as yours, but my interior is a bit unusual...Mahogany leather..most of them here are black. I have the original 1989 Porsche sales brochure that came with the car, and that actually shows a red 911 with that trim.
Peter Morgan did a really thorough check on the car..took 3 hours..the chap I bought it from was really impressed and he got Peter to sign two of his books as well . Incidentally, he didn't want to sell it but hes got a 997 coming in May and his wife would not let him have both.
I think I would have kept them both and changed the wife!!!!!!

Hi Graham

Nice to have you on board, there are as stated a UK contingent on here! We are in a minority though.

Also our American hosts don't always get our humour (this is one sweeping statment that seems to be true!) to be honest in endears me to them even more.

Some of the threads on here get really heated, watch out for them they are good for entertainment! and its usualy the ones talking about cars for sale on e-bay...................I love them.

Seriously though, I have had lots of help and advice from people who genuinley know and love their cars.

Good luck with the car..................its a slippery slope you know.

Hi Graham,

Here is a few pictures of Barry's teeth and nose if he's not careful getting his stearing wheel off!

Welcome,

Graham,

Your car looks great and I really like the color! Guards Red was pretty popular back in the 80's.

You are right about the interior color...mahogany is a color I rarely see. As you would expect, my is Black leather.

Barry is spot on about some of the entertaining threads. Watch for ones dealing with custom chips for our DME "brains". If that topic comes up, grab a pint, sit back, read and enjoy!

Ron

You have proved me wrong about Americans and there lack of humour, nice one. But where did you get that picture of me from?

Bruce, I forgot about the custom chips threads............................omg. Another good one is when someone posts a description of their modified engine, especial in the 930 forum....................they get ripped to shreds!

But like I said you will enjoy this community, they all love us brits being on here really.
