Default 1985 Targa Valuation

I am asking this for a friend that is considering selling his 1985 Targa in the Spring. He is wondering what your collective wisdom thinks a fair market price is for his car.

1985 Black/Black Targa
Full leather
heated sport seats
front and rear spoilers
absolutely no paint work, ever
Bone stock except for trunk strut brace
Limited Slip
Original gold Carrera script on sides
2nd owner
all records
50,000 miles

The car has the typical first gear synchro issues from the 915 transmission. A/C needs a recharge. Otherwise perfect in every way. Targa top also in excellent condition.

What do you guys think this is worth???

Thank you.

Factory or after market?

Bone stock
Are you sure?

Original gold Carrera script on sides
non orginal

sound like it will need a clutch job when the trans is fixed

Yes, heated factory original sport seats (on the window sticker)
Yes, factory original front and rear spoilers (on the window sticker)
ABSOLUTELY bone stock in every way (except for the strut brace)
Carrera Script is FACTORY ORIGINAL (on the window sticker)

The transmission is not in need of service. There is some hesitation required down shifting into 1st gear only. No grinding going up through any of the gears. The clutch is amazingly solid for its 50K mile life. I have owned several 911s with 915 transmissions, so I am not speaking as a novice on this subject.

This car could easily be converted to a concours piece with the right undercarriage TLC. I will certainly buy ANY comparable car at $16K, probably 3 or 4 of them if I could find them.

Dan--
It sounds like a gem and could fetch a $20+ from someone looking for a car in that condition (and yes, I'm partial to 1985 Targas )
I'd advise that your friend get the A/C working - take away any reason for a buyer to walk away. Then wait until the sun is out and advertise it - nothing better than a Targa on a nice sunny day.

Hi all,

I also have any '85 targa, with very similar description, including heated power sport seats. Thinking of selling too, but the market has been too soft. Hopefully, it will get a bit stronger soon.

Regards,

$20k with working/charged AC on a sunny spring day. I don't know the OH dollar adjustment. There a lot of 911's in CA, TX and FL so you can shop a little more. Check what has sold on eBay lately for generation of Carrera, I am sure you will have to adjust for quality.

Super origional showroom cars often command a significant premium. If this car falls in this catagory and you find the right buyer, price could vary $2-3K. This is a very attractively optioned car, and it sounds like you have good documentation... very inportant. Also, targas are a funny market.... people either want them or they don't.

My guess is patience to wait for the exactly right buyer could yield $1-3K in premium on the sale price.
