Ignition Upgrade
I'm upgrading the ignition system in my 72 911T 2.4MFI in stages for budgetary reasons. The plan is to to install the following equipment over the next 6 months in this order:
1) 8.5 Magnecor wires
2) Pertronix (sp?) Ignitor
3) MSD 6
Question: how will the Ignitor perform with the stock Bosch CD while waiting for the MSD kit?
Appreciate any general comments or opinions about this set up.
Condition of car: The CD works ok and it will be kept for future use or restoration, but I am looking for a bit better spark prior to adjusting MFI system. Car has 130K. Plugs are a bit sooty, not oily. Definitely needs new plug wires. A valve adjustment will also be done.
Thanks JSD

JSD:
Good plan, Sir. You will be very pleased with the result when your project is completed.
The Pertronix will certainly help the stock system by eliminating timing variations caused by distributor shaft wear. It should be a little smoother, depending upon the current condition of your distributor.
I would advise you to buy the MSD coil when you install the MSD-6AL. Use the High-Vibration Blaster 3 so you may mount this upside down in the stock location. These coils have the correct impedance for the MSD ignitions.
Best prices I've seen for MSD stuff is Jeg's mailorder.
Have fun,....
