Post Engine# and Type

Long-time reader first time topic so I'll make it simple (clearly its not for me). I own an 80sc Targa and have so the last 3 years, no major problems other than the typical issues, A/C replacement, transmission issues, et al. Engine still runs very strong but I noticed yesterday the engine type 930/07 fits the model year along with the VIN 91A0134xxx but the engine number 643055 I can't marry-up anywhere. Can someone help to explain this phenomenon.

The engine number doesn't have enough digits in it - it needs at least one more. Look the numbers over carefully - I couldn't find any series engine, beyond a 356, that had an engine number starting with 643. The engine number is on a vertical boss on the right side of the engine fan housing at the base of the housing.

Bill - how did I know that you would be the one to answer my question. I'm glad you have responded. Ok, I went back out to the garage (its cold here in ATl) and here is what I have come up with. Star symbol 6403555 then stars. I suspect my attention to detail (please note the time of my question) has some but not all to do with the transposition of the number.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Engine number 6403555 is one of two engines. It's either a type 901.37 1970 2.0L 914-6 Sportomatic (unlikely <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ) or it's a 1980 USA/Canadian 930.07 engine, as it's in the range 640 0001 - 9999.
