Question Headlight Wiring

What is the little bulb in the top of the H4 headlight? I think the bulb is called an H3, when should it be on?

Dear Paul,
In Canada I believe you guys call them driving lights. Here in Europe they are called a pain in the butt or park lights. You can select them on with the 2 position headlight switch. Pos 1 will activate them. From my wiring diagrams for the 964, these driving lights are a mandatory requirement in Canada. Is this correct.
Ciao,
Adrian

I guess this is what we call 'day-time running lights'. Mandatory for OEM's but there is no law requiring them for individual cars, ie you are free to disable it. thanks.

I like the option of leaving the indicator stalk switched to left or right when parked on a dark street at night allowing the left or right parker and tail light illuminated.
But leaving a Porsche parked in such conditions is neglectful if not reckless.... unthinkable, right?
