how to check for LSD?

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you turn one hub on a standard tranny, the other one will spin in the other direction. on an LSD, the other one will spin in the same direction.

Phoenix...A l.s.d. rear is very different from a conventional diff...and just as easy to tell apart...The l.s.d. housing is almost sealed in the center where you cannot see the spider gears at all...ti contains clutch packs on either side of the center for each axle...A conventional rear is open and you will see EVERYTHING!...Meaning the center pin that holds the spiders and the two other spider gears that are attached to the side "tubes" for the axles to bolt on to eventually.Check http://www.classicfirebird.com/hand/build13.html if you have a chance...it basically says the same thing as I have...but in a little more detail.
Hope this helps

If the diff is in good working order the wheel on the opposite side will turn in the same direction on a l.s.d. if a clutch pack is blown apart or just spent ...it may react just like a conventional rear .time for o/haul

If you DO have an LSD and the tranny is off, now is the time to address the LSD and make sure it is functioning well. These do wear and will function just like an open diff if old and worn. And you may also consider shorter gears while you're at it. If I had mine out and it was getting cracked open, these would be my considerations, anyway.
