Speedometer Question
My 84 Carrera's speedometer reading appears fairly optomistic. For example while driving on the freeway it shows me doing 80mph, but cars are flying by me, so I'm sure I'm not going 80mph. Is this a common occurence with 20 year old speedometers? Is there any way to correct it? Or should I even worry since the higher reading will probably keep me from speeding too much.
By the way, the wheels are original to the car and the tires are the recommended sizes.
Thanks!

You could send it to N. Holleywood Speedopmeter or Palo Alto Speedometer for calibration. also pacing a late model car operating at a known speed is a good way to check your speedo.

When I had my 911SC stock 85mph speedometer changed to a 150mph face, and recalibrated, it was spot on. 30 was 30 and 70 was 70 - rather comforting to know the speedometer speed was correct as displayed. North Hollywood did the work, and I would recommend them.

I am having the same issues with my speedo. I have no idea how fast i am going until i hear my wife say slow down. Anyone now how much it will be to get my speedo recalibrated and for them to fix my milage odometer which just stoped.
Thanks Ron

My '86 3.2 speedo runs about 4-6 mph high, this lack of accuracy is made worse by the layout of the speedo face and looking at it from a side angle.
3rd gear is 15mph/1000 rpm - 4th is 19, I think 5th is 24. All I need to know.
In a race car the driver doesn't need to know how fast he's going, just that he's going as fast as he can.

I'll concur with everyone that's mentioned No. Hollywood Speedo (in No. Hollywood, CA) - a fine shop that I've used for so many years I can't remember the first job or when it was!

Rick,
I have the same problem onmy 82sc. I'm quite sure that the odometer gear won't help with fixing the speedo being wrong. I think that it is the size of tires that we are now running versus stock size. I blame mine on changing to 17" wheels. Mine runs 15 mph faster than normal.
Peter,
What's your input here?
Thanks,
Ron
