Question Tachometer problem

Hi,

Can anyone help. I pulled my tachometer out of my dash on my '87 Carrera to replace some burned out bulbs and when I replaced it, the tach was not working. I am trying to determine whether the problem is in the tach or the wiring leading to it. Is there a way to test each separately. If so, what type of instrument or gauge do I need to do the test?

If it worked before, make sure that you didn't dislodge or misplace a wire. My tach experiences have been with my 84. As I recall they all have different plugs on the back. Make sure that one of the wires and pins didn't pull back or break. As I recall the purple wire goes directly to your cars DME, pin 21 on the 84 as I recall. Do a archives research. You can test this with an ohm meter for continuity.
regards,
Steve

Thanks Loren for the correction

"As I recall the purple wire goes directly to your cars DME, pin 19 on the 84 as I recall."

It's pin 21 for the tach. Pin 19 is a ground.
