Default Parking Lights

Looking for some suggestions...

I've got a 86' 911 and I can't seem to diagnose why the parking lights on the right side of the car are out. I replaced the 5 amp fuse and confirmed all the light bulbs are in working order. Still no luck ???

Has anyone experienced this ? If so, what are your thoughts ?

Thanks...

RichKenny,
Check your earth (ground) for continuity. Do the turn signals work on that side?
regards,
Steve

Thanks for the quick response... Yes, the turn signals work. How does one check the "earth ground?"

Remove the lenses, and bulbs. Examine the bulb sockets for corrosion. The ground wire is brown and is connected to the metal body. If the turn signals work then it is probably a central issue. Look under the dash and make sure that wires are not disconnected from light switch. I am at work so I do not have access to my wiring diagrams, but in general P cars (like VWs and others) divide left and right sides for the lights etc. You should always use dielectric grease in light sockets and it's available from many auto stores.
regards,
Steve

Its a little known fact, that the 86 Carrera (and only the 86) has a weird diode in the right hand parking light circuit!

It is located under the dash, kind of behind the ignition switch.

You can easily locate it, just look under there, you'll see a 3 inch, white holder in the wiring that holds the diode.

Yours has gone bad or the connections are corroded. Clean the connectors or replace it and your problem will be solved.

Call a dealer, they can look up the part number for you. Its around $15-20, as I recall.
