You didn't say what year 911 you have. On my 911SC, a partial engine drop coupled with removing the air boot on top of the fuel distributor gives plenty of access to the back. I don't have a/c or the air blower in the left hand corner, so if you have those there's a little more work to do. You probably already saw the partial engine drop article on tech.rennlist.com under 911 engines.

Why bother with it? Most 911's owners I know just cut off the loose section & go. Mine's been off for years. Beside, don't you want to hear that sweet sounding engine? I'm guessing without it the engine might run a tad cooler also...
