Hi everybody,
I am looking at a Silver '81 SC Targa, but the engine has been replaced 7 years ago with a 3.2 which currently has 80k miles.
Exterior condition is good and interior has been described by owner as "original" which means not excellent condition.
Car has had four owners. The last one has had it for four years and, although he has not a detailed history of the car, he is happy to go throough a PPI.
Asking price is around $15k. I plan to use the car as a daily driver. I am thinking about a late SC (here in Europe they have 204 hp) or an early Carrera 3.2
I would appreciate any comments/help. Does the 3.2 engine make it more or less desirable?
Thanks

Your question may be more relevant to selling the car in the future. There are those who want originality. Others would look at it, and since there's more hp in a more modern engine without CIS, that would be a plus. As I recall, the only weak points on the 3.2 engine are the valve guides and the smaller (9mm vs earlier 10mm) rod end bolts (which are only a concern if you over-rev the engine). If you want a Porsche to own and drive and originality doesn't really matter to you, then I'd suggest looking it over. I wouldn't factor in any price uplift due to the 3.2 engine, though. If originality and a complete package are important to you, or you are concerned about resale value, then I'd probably keep looking. In most area's there are more than one Porsche for sale.
