Default SSI's

Looking to pick up SSI's as my next mod, anybody add them ? What muffler did you team them up with? Car is still 90% street driven need combo to be semi quiet with no resonance.
thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Good question - I'm also intersted in the response - I've hear that a Dansk muffler goes quite well but I've also heard their quality has slipped a little.

Default SSI's

I have an '86 Carrera with SSI's and an OEM Porsche sport muffler. The combination sounds great together. I have heard the Dansk and other after market mufflers with the SSI's and they produce a little bit more of a throatier sound.

I have SSI's and a Dansk muffler on my '70 E. The muffler is aluminized and is about 8 years old and the SSI's about 5 years. It sounds pretty much like stock to me. You can't beat SSI heat exchangers. They fit perfectly and will never rust. Just what you need in NYC.

If I still had my 81SC, I'd consider a Monty muffler with the SSI's.

Won't you have a problem in NYC with emissions? SSI if I'm not mistaken go on w/out a cat, considering the same mod here in NJ and I'm concerned about inspection...Any advice?

My wrench suggested it, so I'm assuming it will still pass or he will make it pass, but I will ask the question before I spend the cash

The 3.0L engine may pass a sniffer test, but would fail the physical observation test that most states have. I'm not one to recommend that anyone use SSI's for a year or two (or whatever period the state allows) and then put the old system back on for two reasons: 1) It's a nuissance and more importantly 2) broken exhaust studs are annoying to fix. Of course if you replace all your exhaust studs, use copper nuts and copper anti-seize, that would, for the most part, eliminate #2.

I did ask my wrench in NJ about it, he says that he can get it to pass the snifer and since he has a long standing relationship with the owner of a state licensed but private inspection station across the street, they don't always need to do the visual...if you know what I mean, wink, wink, nudge, nudge...

A state run free facility will fail the you on the visual here in NJ....just something to consider...BTW I saw an ad on e-bay today for a place that is selling thin flange ssi for $849 a pair, sounds like a good price to me....

I had SSI's with AJ USA's dual outlet sport muffler. GREAT sound and not very expensive. I had them jet-hot coated and they looked great also.

Default Which wrench?

Hey adamred, I too live in the Garden State and just had SSI's And Dual out Dansk installed in the spring. I am good till 2006(?) but would love to get the name of your wrench when I have to go for that dreaded inspection. Harry

All we now use are Monty mufflers.

Better quality & construction than anything else, excellent power, and a nice sound without being intrusive. Lifetime guarantee, too.

You get what you pay for,...
