LOL Carrera...I needed that...a bit of lightening up. However, Bruce's valuations have been a running joke within the early 911S fratenity for years. Christain, save your air fare money. Latest EXCELLENCE, Bruce says $16K for an "excellent" '72S....mine must be way beyond excellent, because I've been offered, by a guy with the money, a serious collector guy, nearly triple that amount. At the time I wondered who was crazier, he for offering, or me for turning it down.

ok cool thats what i thought it was! i remember reading the article about jim holmes 66' 911 in 911 & porsche world mag. a few years back. is he still a member of r gruppe? i love the article about his car! (plus being raised in a vw house, i was raised to worshop the early custom pioneers such as himself and the cal look.) too bad there isnt an outlaw or high performance 912 org. out there (then again.. 912.. high performance.. isnt that an oxymoron? ) -seriously though, i was at the south east region 912 meet last weekend in the mountians of nc.. i couldnt believe what she could do on those twisties!
thanx for the web site!

It's sat at $25,100 for two days, with a few hours to go 'til the virtual hammer comes down ... I presume there will be a battle at the end between interested parties ... or maybe one of the protagonists is a shill ... eBay always makes me wonder.

The auction closed at a decent $26,400 but below the reserve. It seems that momotime stepped into the bidding around $20K and held it down to the wire at $25,100 then savvy eBay-er "shred-it" -- waiting in the wings with a reserve bid of $26,300 tried his gambit at the last moment -- but momotime said "denied." I'm guessing the seller (carscene.net) will be calling Mr Momotime to see how much he had left to shovel onto the table.

Quite often dealers will put cars on eBay purely for the purpose of exposure. (Hey, it got my attention!) I would venture to guess any number of the top bidders may be in touch with the dealer to discuss a potential purchase. Now, whether the dealer will get the $35k he's asking is another story. Sometimes eBay is a good indication of market value on some of the more rare cars....especially since nobody seems to agree on what this one is worth. (?) I would be curious to find out where a dealer got such a nice car (or so it seems) and what he/she paid for it? Since most of you seemed to think $20k - $30k, maybe the bidders are close enough to work with?
The mystery continues....maybe the next owner will become a rennlist member and we can ask?!?!?

Doug,
The dealer doesn't own the car, they are selling it on consignment for the owner. I suppose their cut would be around 10%. It would be interesting to see what this car would do in a live auction like Pebble Beach with an audience of Porsche fanatics. Hope we find out what it sells for.

Ah...that makes sense. But also surprises me...only because if I were trying to sell such a nice car, I wouldn't use eBay or a dealer.
Now I'm very curious to see what happens with this car!

Here's another fun & informative website some may not know of, if you're interested in the early 911 models. http://www.early911s.com/

You mean $26,400 isn't a decent offer for a '67S with a colour change and not a lot of documentation sitting on eBay?
Sure, if this was on offer from the present owner with a nice stack of documentation, photos and a quiet drive to a local expert for a PPI, I'd consider it just for the joy of the short wheel base and the fact someone else has already done the work and it looks like a solid car.
It seems to me, while the highest bid on eBay came with the caveat of the car passing an inspection, that's a pretty serious number. After all, you could take a clean, straight '72 or '73 T (there's a nice on at hemmings.com offering in the low teens) and do your own B Gruppe engine and not have all the unknowns and say inside a $30K budget. Presumably starting with a '67S would be more difficult, if not more expensive.
Also, since the eBay auction got to all but $27K and the ask is $35K (and what dealer today is surrounded by buyers?) surely a compromise to say $29K should have seen the keys change hands.
Anyway, I really like that '67S and I would have liked to see it offered by the present owner instead of paying a dealer a premium, I could seriously consider it around $25K. At $35K, well ...

I was just observing that there seemed to be a pretty big gap between the final offer and what was asked. Since the motovation of the seller is unknown (at least to me), I suspect he is trying to see if he can get high $$ but is not motivated to truly sell.
