I ordered my H4's with the black primered rims (not the optional rims), which also came with standard 55/60 bulbs, from Foreign Intrigue in Maine for $250. The chrome rim'd H4's they sell don't come with a bulb. I spray painted them with a black gloss enamel, which looks good against the white body color. The front glass seems thinner than on US-spec sealed bulbs, so I got some thin clear, flexible, plastic material from IPD to put over the glass, so rock chips wouldn't shatter the lense. Cost about $12 for a sheet. Other similar products are available from various sources.

If you want to run higher wattage's, as Bill V pointed out, you need to wire in a relay. Here's an article about how to do it:

They are H4 and do not have DOT mandated nipples on the glass for aiming(no one checks for these anyhow). They are available for use with varying bulb wattage. If higher wattage bulbs are used(say 80 and up) headlight relays are recommended.

The H5 has the same appearance(though with the correct nipples) but is not as flexible as far as bulbs, the light pattern is not as good as the H4, and they are more expensive than the H4.

Do not confuse the Bosch parts above with conventional old style US H4 lights.

Hello guys- I am resurrecting a very old thread here- I have an 87 Carrera with H5 lenses. I like the way they look but the output is awful. Ive cleaned them internally but they still are not great.

If I am understanding this correctly, I believe that I need a Euro H4. So I know I can buy the Euro H-4 from pelican, Ebay, etc. But will they fit a 1987 Carrera? All of the internet info on the Euro H4s recommends up to the 1986 year model, and never mentions 1987.

I really appreciate any info on this!

THANKS and hope everyone had a great Christmas!

You can put the Euro H4's on an 87-89 model and they bolt (screw right on). The H4 and H5 lens are different. The only difference is the electrical receptacle on the back of the bulbs. You will need an adapter or will have to cut off the H5 connector and solder/splice in the H4 connector. Since the bulbs are different on each assembly, you will need H4 bulbs. If you go to a wattage higher than 55/60w, you will need to put in a relay kit that will route power more to the lights and by-pass the stalk switch. When I put my Marcus Sucros relay kit in my car, the instrument lights lit up about 30-40 % more which solved an additional problem for me (crappy instrument lighting).

Here is a pic of the oem Bosch as delivered on my '76 Carrera 3.0
I just saw this post from Bill above- I found some Bosch 0 301 800 103 models locally- I believe they were what Pelican has also. Does anyone know the difference between the 0 301 800 103 and the 0 301 800 101? I can get the ones ending in 103 for a great price- just wondering if there is a difference, and if so, what it is.

Any help is appreciated.

########### I just found the answer- I looked again at Pelicans site and the 101 has a chrome ring and the 103 has a black ring. Doh! ################### I found a place that had two left of the (black ringed) 103s for $55 each- seemed to good to be true but they appear to be the real thing! I would have bought more if they had some- could have sold on eBAY for a profit.
